Speaker Bio:
Mustafa Polat (Ph.D in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching) is an Assistant Professor at the Department of English Language Teaching (ELT) of Marmara University (MU). He previously worked at Bahçeşehir University (BAU) and served as the chair of BAU ELT for four years. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Middle East Technical University (METU) at the Department of Foreign Language Education and he also received a minor diploma in general management at the Department of Business Administration. Having taught English at various foundation universities in Turkey for several years, he started a PhD program as a Fulbright scholar in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) at the University of Arizona. He earned another MA degree in SLAT as a Fulbright scholar and he also holds a PhD degree in SLAT specializing in language learners’ use of technology and diffusion of innovation within the framework of user intention theories. He has expertise in language pedagogy and educational technology. His research interests lie in the area of computer-assisted language learning, pre-service and in-service teacher education, and user adoption of new technologies. Accordingly, he has been offering various courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Marmara University. He has advised several MA and PhD students and authored articles in indexed journals and chapters in national and international books. He also offers classes at both Boğaziçi University and BAU for senior-year pre-service language teachers as a visiting instructor and also conducts training sessions and workshops for educators employed by colleges and higher education institutions all around Turkey.
